The Bahá'í House of Worship - Wilmette, Illinois
"The Earth is but one country and mankind its citizens."
"Ye are the fruits of one tree and the leaves of one branch."
"Women and men have been and will always be equal in the sight of God."
"It is incumbent upon each one of you to engage in some occupation - such as a craft,
a trade or the like. We have exalted your engagement in such work to the rank of worship
of the one true God."
Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892)
Prophet-Founder of the Bahá'í Faith
The worldwide Bahá'í community may well be the most diverse and widespread body of people on earth. The members, numbering close to six million, represent 2,112 different ethnic and tribal groups who live in 116,000 localities in 233 independent countries and territories around the globe. Recognized by the Encyclopedia Britannica as the second-most wide spread independent religion in the world, after Christianity, the Bahá'í community is also among the most unified organizations on the planet; a feature that is perhaps its most distinguishing characteristic.
Bahá'ís the world over come from all religious backgrounds: Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jew, Muslim, Sikh, Zoroastrian, animist, and non-religious. Yet they study a common set of sacred writings, observe a unifying code of religious laws, and look to a single international administrative system for continuing guidance. Their sense of unity goes beyond a shared theology. It is expressed in an abiding commitment to a global program for moral, spiritual and social progress that represents many of the finest ideals of civilization.
Declaring the organic unity of humankind as representing the consummation of the whole process of human evolution, the Bahá'í Faith recognizes the unity of God and His Prophets, upholds the principle of unfettered search for scientific and religious truth, promotes the equality of women and men, condemns all forms of prejudice, exalts work performed in the spirit of service to humanity to the rank of worship, and sets for its followers the goal of meeting the highest moral standards.
The Bahá'í Club of Ford has been established to provide a forum for promoting the application of Bahá'í ethical, spiritual and social teachings related to personal transformation and the work environment. Its membership is open to all those interested in "walking the spiritual path with practical feet". It is a member of the Ford Interfaith Network.
